According to China customs data, China exported 114,700 tonnes of aluminium foil in November 2021, which reflected a month-on-month increase of 2 per cent and a year-on-year rise of 13 per cent. Jiangsu, Zhejiang, Shanghai, Henan, Shandong ranked top in November, exporting more than 10,000 tonnes each and accounting for over 10 per cent of the export proportion. The five provinces mentioned above accounted for up to 79 per cent of the total exports.
To Thailand and India, China exported 12,500 tonnes and 10,700 tonnes of aluminium foil, respectively, in November 2021. The demand for aluminium foil in India is rebounding to normal levels, said the report. Demand in South Korea, Japan, and Saudi Arabia is also increasing, but their import volume is so far less than in Thailand and India.
Except for Luxembourg, China exported 9,100 tonnes of aluminium foil to 26 EU countries, which accounted for 7.91 per cent of the total aluminium foil exports in November. Since May 2021, the exports and demand of aluminium foil in the European Union have been stabilising.
But due to the rise in aluminium foil imports, the European Union again imposed anti-dumping duties on some aluminium foils originating in China. Thus, the current export volume of aluminium foil from China to the European Union has reduced, resulting in a severe impact on some of the leading Chinese aluminium foil companies such as Nanshan, Zhongji, and Xianshun.
However, although the exports of aluminium foil from China to the EU have decreased due to the anti-dumping duties yet the former's total export volume has not shrunk significantly, which also proves that the EU market has limited impact on China’s overall aluminium foil exports.
