Though less strong than most of the 2xxx and 7xxx alloys, 6061 Aluminum coil are the most versatile of the heat treatable aluminum alloys and 6061 aluminum coil provides an extensive range of mechanical properties and corrosion resistance and can be fabricated by many of the commonly used practices. In the annealed condition, alloy 6061 aluminum coil has good formability. In the T4 condition, fairly severe forming can be done; whereas, properties may be obtained by artificial aging in the T6 condition.

Features

As a heat-treatable grade aluminum 6061 is widely used in light to medium strength structural applications. Due to good corrosion resistance and weldability and possesses good formability in the 0 to T4 tempers, 6061 aluminum coil have good strength when welded. However, when strength is a prime consideration, it is replaced by the 5000 series aluminum alloys.

Applications

6061 aluminum coil is used for larger parts including aircraft landing mats, large and small marine vessels, structural architectural parts, storage tanks and highway signs, which are exposed to outdoor or lightly corrosive environments. What’s more, 6061 aluminum coil is used for heavy duty structures requiring good strength-to-weight ratio with good corrosion resistance. It  is commonly used for structural components, frames, brackets, jigs, fixtures, base plates, machine parts, hydraulic valve bodies, valves parts, fuse parts, gears, worm gears, rectifier parts, fasteners, truck and marine components, marine fittings and hardware, electrical fittings and connectors, hinge pins, magneto parts, appliance fittings, camera lens mounts, etc. 6061 is easily cold worked and formed in the annealed condition.
