However,6061is less strong when compared to aluminum 2024 and 7075。 6061 aluminum plate has excellent welding and brazing properties because of its high corrosion resistance at all temperatures. Typical applications include pipe fittings and bridge components. Made with silicon and magnesium. 6061 alloy is a readily weldable, machinable and formable grade of aluminum.

6061 aluminum plate has good mechanical properties, exhibits good weldabilit. 6061 alloy is one of the most common aluminum grade for genera use. Temper O, T6 and T651 are available.

Applications

6061 aluminum plate can be used for wings and fuselages in aircraft structures, more commonly in aerospace than commercial or military aerospace. 2024 alloy is a little stronger, but 6061 is more easily worked and keep resistant to corrosion even when the surface is abraded.
